Sew girly!!

So my good friend Cimony is having a little girl after her two boys, Jack and Lucas. She needs some serious girly things. I've already given her boxes of clothes so I decided to brush off the sewing machine and make some totally girly/springtime blankets. I also wanted to find some cute bibs, but seriously, could not find anything, so I decided. . .really, it can't be too hard, and anyway, the kid is going to spill food all over it and spit up and drool on it, so it doesn't have to be perfect. . .sounds just right for me!!
I found the cute stripe fabric at Walmart! They have cheapo (pricing) fabric, I think it was 2.79 a yard or something, and I just backed it with white flannel. I found the hawaiian type fabrics at Joann fabric on clearance, I think about $2 a yard too. I backed the bibs with some cute vintage chenille that my neighbor has loads of. She gets it from garage sales and her mom picks up tons for her from her old/small town. She makes tons of things out of the chenille, I have a set of stuffed snowmen (dyed with a 'tea-stain'), and she made an adorable little bright pink bunny when Whitney was born. One of her favorite things to do, is when a grandma will give her an old bedspread from chenille and have her make little bears/bunnies/whatever out of her to give to her grandkids.
My neighbor Tammy made the adorable doll and block (it has a little rattle inside of it), all out of her funky chenille. I loved them and told her I must have them.
Happy baby girl!!!

Very cute and crafty! Love the colors! I have become quite partial to pink...although that didn't happen until I had three girls! I really like the striped fabric- gotta love the cheap fabric at Walmart! Its where all of my window treatments have come from.

LOVE the patterns... you are so crafty. I don't know my way around a sewing machine...that's why I carry plastic. ;-) She's so lucky to have you as a friend.

Those are so cute! I had no idea you could sew. As soon as Carl gives me the ultimate go-ahead, I'm going to try to make his old t-shirts into a quilt. Do you give lessons?

I guess I could say that I do 'sew'. But I just really fake it well. I like baby blankets because it's all straight lines and nothing complicated. I bet together we could figure out how to do the t-shirt quilt!

So cute! Very inspirational. I think sometimes people are intimidated by sewing when you're right--it's mostly straight lines!

I love the colors! You did a great job.

Now, you make it sound so easy. Over Christmas I made a quilt while we were hanging out with Casey's family. You should see my "straight" lines. It looks like I had been drinking spiked egg nog all day. By the end of the day, however, my lines got straighter and straighter. The egg nog must have worn off. Practice makes perfect, eh?

Awesome job Wendy!! I love the colors as well. Pink is awesome!!
When are you going to start selling them!! I'll be a customer....

Hey by the way were you still thinking about emailing a resumé???

I agree Deb about the "straight" lines, not an easy task for me as well, we must have had the same mom!!

Love that idea - you've inspired me. No more bibs with crap like "If Mommy Says No, Ask Grandma" printed on them!
