XOXOXO Be Mine XOXOXO
Dear Valentine,
We're coming up on 17 years together! SEVENTEEN!! Sometimes I look on our 15/16 year old selves and think we were nuts. Yep, we were, but look where we are now. That road has definitely not been easy. Not that I thought it would be easy, but we've hit some big speedbumps. I was thinking about that today. I think each of those speedbumps was there to slow us down. Slow us down and force us to get to the core of what "we" are. We are in love. We are companions, friends, help-meets, partners, parental units, and lovers. A lot of what runs us over those speedbumps is frivilous junk. It's emotions and anger and selfishness. I know we have to go through it, even if it hurts. I'm amazed at the spirit that we share together. We have persevered and been able to rise above it. Thank you. Thank you for being a fabulous father of three beautiful girls. Thank you for tolerating the pink, the barbies, the tiny polly pocket shoes, and the gymboree and target bags that come home. Thank you for using your artistic abilities to paint their fingernails. Thank you for working ridulous shifts at work so you can be home with them while I'm at work. Thank you for putting up with my nagging and teasing about your perfectionistic side. Thank you for loving to play games with my family until the wee hours of the morning. Thank you for making sure I was welcomed into all your families activities from day one of us dating. Thank you for being patient with me and with all my little (and big) attitudes that I'm sure drive you crazy. Most of all thank you for loving me. So what do you say? Wanna be my valentine? And let's meet on the playground for a little kiss. (The kids can push themselves on the swings!)

Wendy,
I love you more than you'll ever know. Thank you for so much. You are a wonderful companion, wife, mother, lover, ballroom dance instructor for the youth at the Valentines dance at the last moment, putter upper with my perfectionist ways and many ideas and so much more. I love you and Happy Valentines day.

I feel intrusive, BUT, I feel special because I've been able to witness this romance from DAY ONE! I remember Wendy telling me and Cim that "he will be mine" on the temple trip bus and I'll be damned if you didn't make it happen! Oh, you crazy kids! Thanks, by the way, for letting me be the third wheel all those times. . . good times, good times. . . )
Wendy,
That was so sweet. What is also sweet is that he reads your blog (hi Matt). I have HEARD about the famout Matt and Wendy for EVER.
Your girls are beautiful (always) and the picture of you two at the top is great. Makes me want to go get pictures done....
Thanks babe, bonus points for you!!
Lisa--you can feel special. . .you HAVE been there from day one, which was 17 years ago next month! (Now we feel really old huh?) Do you remember on that particular temple trip when I looked through his wallet and saw his current girlfriends picture and I pointed to it and said, "that's gonna be me!" Ok, I know we were on a "temple trip" but come on, it was l.o.v.e! Or at least that weird, awkward, all consuming teenage "love".
Bek, on the bottom of his valentine's day card it said "Go check out my blog!" :)
Wendy,
I do read your blogs, I may not always comment on them, but I do read them.
Wendy, if I had met my hubby at 16 I never would have gone for him...I am glad you found Matt. for the record, you two have not aged one day over that 16 year old photo...please tell me that that IS your 16 year old selves in the red, or else I would need to give you some serious fashion tips: Matching is NOT cool anymore. ; )
Oh my Kage, thanks for the compliment and did you SEE my hair? Could I get those bangs any higher? And you should see the full dress, it's red corduroy, big puffy sleeves and a full skirt with a red corduroy big bow tied in the back---with WHITE tights and black high heels from Payless. Oh, and Matt's socks were black with white polka dots. Can you say early 90's anyone. . .
Maybe I should have everyone scan and send their prom pictures and we could set up a blog. . .that may get the tears rolling. . .
Oh, a prom blog would be priceless. I wore a peach mermaid dress w/ a lace overlay and bows on the sleves. I am not sure that it was even in at the time!!!
My hair would have kicked you hair's folicles in a hairspray competition. Seriously. It was also curly.
Do a prom one next....pretty please?
ooh, a prom one would be fun. I had big sleeves to match my big bangs and big perm. And I had my shoes dyed mauve to match my dress--and my date's tie and cumberbund, of course. Ahh, the 80's.
